Our sole purpose is to seek out and provide funding to the most cutting edge studies and projects working towards finding a cure for pancreatic cancer. We welcome you to learn our family story, and why we are passionate about finding early detection, gene identification, and a cure for pancreatic cancer. Studies show that pancreatic cancer will be the second leading cause of death among cancers by 2020 according to public statistics. Our blog will share the most up to date information about the developments and technological advances in research towards the cures for pancreatic cancer. We will also focus on education, awareness, healthy habits, and work with larger pancreatic cancer organizations already leading the way through years of charity funds, and making an impact throughout the country by lobbying our national government leaders.
This first post will be in dedication to the man who inspired the foundation, “Matthew James Zetz, III” more fondly known as “Jim”, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on July 11, 2014 at 62 years old. He was a well known general contractor in the Bay Area for 40 years. He took pride and it showed in his custom work building beautiful homes. This disease is proving to be of a genetic nature on his maternal side of the family. So it was important for him to find answers. We have joined Sol Goldman Pancreatic Research Center at John Hopkins and National Familial Pancreas Registry.
The Zetz Family Pancreatic Cancer Research Foundation is synonymous with Jim Zetz and Josie Zetz, when a community gathered together to help create a special eleventh birthday and lifetime memory for Josie, who is the youngest of the Zetz children. The video Daddy Walk Me Down The Aisle, created by Love Song Events & Photography went viral in March 2014, and has been featured around the world including in People magazine, CNN, Huffington Post, and many other large syndicated television news workshops, which shared the touching story between the love of a daughter and her father. Jim was terminally diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer prior to Josie’s birthday, and realized that he would never get the chance to walk his youngest daughter down the aisle. With the mock style wedding celebration they exchanged a vow to be a daughter he will be proud of, and he gave her a ring to remember that he will be watching over her in the future.
Since then, the Zetz Family was blessed with a special wish thanks to Friends Are By Your Side, a nonprofit foundation created by Martino Cartier, to take the family on a special “family honeymoon” to the most magical place on earth, Disneyland!! The love and memories with Jm and his family was captured and shared in a video entitled the Zetz Family Disneyland Trip with Friends By Your Side.
Shortly thereafter, Jim Zetz lost his battle to his pancreatic cancer. Again, the community of Murrieta came to surround the Zetz Family to pay their respects and honor a special man. His final service and memorial were photographed by Kelsey Vrooman Photography, compiled into another video, and was shared with the world. You can view these videos under the “About us” tab under "Zetz Family Story" page.
We encourage those of your with your own pancreatic cancer stories to share with us the road you are traveling or have already journeyed. Hopefully you will find this site helpful, and close to your heart. We invite you to join forces with us and donate to the cause of finding HOPE and CURE.
